The majority of people in the region are Christian, and most of the Christians are Catholics because of the Roman Empire, and the influence of the Roman Catholic Church. A lot of other less dominant religions are increasing due to the increasing diversity in the region.
Currently there isn’t much religious diversity in the region, as a majority of countries recognize Christianity as their major religion. Currently, due to the Syrian refugee crisis, there has been an influx of Muslim immigrants in the region. In France, they banned burqas, and hijabs in public places. This has caused a lot of tensions in the region, as French Muslims have to listen to French law over Sharia, the Islamic code and law. There aren’t any instances of religious persecution recently, however it has occurred in the history of Western Europe.
